
Bruce has been a Simmental breeder and a member of the CSA since 1977 and is one of the original YCSA members. After 6 years as a CSA director, Bruce joined the CSA’s staff in the fall of 2007. Through his involvement in various industry organizations he has developed a wide network of contacts and has acquired a deep understanding of the challenges facing the various links in the beef production chain. Bruce has been honored by the World Simmental Fleckvieh Federation (WSFF) with its Golden Book Award for his service to the organization and is only the second Canadian to have served as WSFF President.
Barb joined the Canadian Simmental Association as Office Manager in October 2004. Along with day to day operations of the office and assistance to the General Manager and Board of Directors, Barb oversees registry and member services, administers association procedures and bylaws, member correspondence and inquiries.
Born and raised on a commercial cattle/grain farm in the Foothills of Alberta, Barb has remained true to her roots. After several years of post-school employment in the oil industry, she has dedicated her professional career exclusively to the beef industry for the past 20+ years. Barb has vast knowledge in various sectors of the purebred industry having been employed with a large purebred cattle operation where her duties included maintenance of the records with three different purebred offices, office manager of two other major purebred beef associations, management support in an A.I. facility and administrative support with two different cattle exporters and sales consultants.
Barb resides north of Calgary where she is actively involved with her family’s ranching operation.
Perry relocated to Calgary after growing up in the northeast farming community of Nipawin, Saskatchewan. Prior to securing work in the beef industry in August 1992, Perry attained 2 diplomas from the S.I.A.S.T. - Palliser Campus in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan - with majors in both Business Administration and Data Processing. In August 1997, Perry joined the Simmental team. The skills and knowledge he attained from working with another cattle organization prepared him for the challenging position at CSA which includes registrations, data collection, lab result verification, and online website support. Perry enjoys communicating with the members of the association and appreciates the opportunity to assist them with their registry needs on a daily basis.
Laurie was born and raised in the agriculture world and she has acquired a broad range of knowledge and skills working for various cattle organizations. Through those positions she has gained a tremendous amount of experience in maintaining purebred cattle records and will now be assisting CSA members to maintain theirs. Laurie and her husband Calvin reside at Crossfield, AB. where they have raised 4 wonderful children and enjoy spending time with friends, family and grandchildren.
Devra joined the Canadian Simmental Association in May 2014. Devra has two grown children and currently resides with her husband in Airdrie, AB. She enjoys watching baseball and reading.
Laura joined the Canadian Simmental Association in November of 2023. Born and raised on a Charolais/grain family farm just outside of Calgary, Laura worked in the archaeological consulting industry for years before making a career change and returning to her agricultural roots as the newest member of the CSA. She is an advocate for modern agriculture in Canada and enjoys helping members grow and manage successful Simmental herds. Currently residing in Calgary, she also enjoys being an amateur long distance runner and an even more amateur equestrian.
Originally from Rosemary, Alberta; Sue grew up on her family’s purebred Simmental Cow/calf operation and later obtained a Diploma in Livestock Production at Lakeland College in Vermilion. Sue and her husband Jason now reside and assist with the operation of the family ranch just outside of Brooks, Alberta. Through her involvement with the Canadian Cattle Identification Agency during the last 10 years and many years with the 4-H programs, Sue has acquired a broad based knowledge of the Beef industry. “I look forward to working to continue to grow Simmental’s presence and success in the Canadian Beef industry” states Sue.
Jennifer joined the Canadian Simmental Association in December of 2024. Born and raised in Nova Scotia, her passion for agriculture ran deep. She completed her Bachelor of Science majoring in Agricultural Business at Dalhousie’s Faculty of Agriculture where she then worked in the industry until 2019 when relocating to Alberta. She currently resides southeast of Calgary where her and her husband Devon & daughter manage their purebred Simmental herd. She enjoys working with youth in the industry and is excited to be able to play a part in the YCS program after being a member herself.
Dwayne resides just outside of Stettler with his wife, Paula and kids, Trinity and Levi. Dwayne has been involved in the cattle business all of his life where he was raised on a purebred Charolais operation in Central Alberta. From there he moved on to work in the feedlot and cow calf sector. In 2001 he started a hoof trimming and show and sale cattle preparation business. Over the last 25 years it has give him the opportunity to travel much of the country and get an in-depth view of many purebred and commercial operations. This is where his love for the Simmental breed flourished starting their own herd with his family. Dwayne is also heavily involved in his community and junior programs. Being involved in 4H himself he went on to give his time as a volunteer, leader,judge and a parent. Dwayne has been heavily involved in the Stettler District Ag society the last seven years sitting on the board and as president and overseeing all cattle events. In 2017 Dwayne took a position with the Alberta Simmental Association as their field man. It’s also gave him the opportunity to hit most major cattle marketing events in the province meeting many producers. Dwayne looks forward to his position as the CSA field representative and plans on using this position to make any more connections in the industry and gain a greater understanding of the beef business and how to move it into the future.
